Crocs Free Tickets for Buddies

Post  Jim on Tue Oct 21, 2008 12:18 pm

A big bunch of kids attended our October Buddies Day at the Townsville Entertaniment Centre to see the Crocs play (and unfortunately lose to!) the Perth Wildcats. Our inside man (Duncan) was games manager for the night and got a number of the kids down to play games on the court during the breaks. The Crocs gave us 50 free tickets, and posters for everyone. A number of Vinnies 'elders' helped with the transport, one of whom drove the bus, kindly loaned by Ryan Catholic College. It made a big difference. The young adult Vinnies put in a huge effort looking after the kids, especially those who went on the bus for the long journey before and after, picking the kids up and dropping them home. After the game a lot of the kids got posters signed by the team. All in all a great night, if a little boisterous at times! For a bit of background, the Crocodiles basketball team have this season instituted a scheme of offering tickets to a variety of community groups trying to help disadvantaged kids. When we've recovered, we might see if we can do it again!
