SASSY Mission
After our meeting last week I tried to write down in the simplest way I could what I thought the sassy mission is. This already assumes the Vinnies mission, but adds what I would see myself trying to do as a facilitator. It is a single sentence, which has a commentary which spells out the sense of each key word.
SASSY Mission
“To introduce young people to the Vincentian vocation and facilitate their long term participation in the Society.”
'Introduce': A range of means to bring the St Vincent de Paul Society to the attention of young people so that they understand what it is, and have a good experience of the Society.
'Young people': The pivotal focus is youth/young adulthood, and this includes introducing children and teens to the Society, and seeking to maintain contact with them throughout their school lives and into their twenties. There is legitimate involvement also with young adults into their thirties, especially to facilitate their transition to a variety of forms of adult involvement.
'Vincentian vocation': A life in which the direct personal encounter between those seeking to serve and those needing help is the constant source of spiritual growth and renewal of the methods of mission. (See also Vinnies Mission Statement)
'Facilitate': Continually seeking out effective ways of realising the mission, emphasising the enablement of others to become leaders and self-motivated members.
'Long term': That young people discover a value in the Society which connects deeply with the personal commitments which go on to shape their adult lives.
'Participation': This includes all kinds of Vincentian works, and involvement as volunteers or members. We foster growth towards full membership as the most desirable outcome.

Still learning
I'm still learning about this forum thing! I didn't notice Duncan was logged on, so it appears he wrote the post instead of me.

Sassy Mission
Good one Jim, you are making me sound wise beyond my years, or at least somewhat intelligent. Don't hesitate to do this again so that people can comment on my thought-provoking discussions that are written by you. Haha.

Hey Jim , AKA Duncan : I really like how you have articulated the SASSY mission I agree with the mission and think that it is easy to understand in this format. Hey, Duncan I'm sure you will write some thought provoking stuff of your own before too long, the experiences of years might makes us wise but it also gives us wrinkles. heheheh Laine
